About Us

Who are we?

Grace Lutheran Church has been serving the New London/Bear Creek area of Northern Wisconsin since 1916. We are a small, rural congregation located in the community of Sugar Bush committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to people of all ages in the community around us.

Grace is a congregation of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). To learn more about WELS, follow this link: https://wels.net/

What do we believe?

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God.

We believe that God is Triune - three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), yet one God.

We believe that all people are conceived and born sinful and spiritually dead, fully unable to change that status, and therefore in need of a Savior from sin.

We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for the sins of the whole world.

We believe that faith is a gift given to us by God the Holy Spirit as he works through his powerful Word. Through this faith in Jesus as our Living Savior from sin, we have complete forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven.

We believe that there are two sacraments - Holy Baptism and Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) - and that the Holy Spirit works through these Means of Grace to create and strengthen saving faith.

If you would like to learn more about what God's Word teaches, please come worship with us! All are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings as we hear God's Word, grow in our faith and knowledge of him, and worship and praise our God for all the great things he has done. We'll see you soon!

Our Church Name

Our congregation's name is "grace." What does "grace" mean? Grace is God's undeserved love for sinners. Nothing we can ever do will make God love us or even like us. Yet because of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his perfect life in our place, and his sacrificial death on the cross, God chooses to show us undeserved love. Because of this great and wonderful love of God, he forgives our sins and offers us the free gift of eternal life in heaven with him. One of our congregation's favorite Bible verses talks about this:
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)

Our Pastor

Our current vancy pastor is Rev. Caleb Rothfuss. Pastor Rothfuss serves at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clintonville and is helping our Grace during the vacancy. If you have any questions about our congregation, what we believe, or the work we do in Sugar Bush and the surrounding area, feel free to call the church office at (715) 752-4285 or send an e-mail to gracesugarbush@gmail.com and Pastor Rothfuss will be happy to talk with you.
