How can you learn about Jesus and Grow in His Grace?
Sunday School - Our Sunday School meets between Labor Day and Memorial Day from 9:15-10:15am and is open to any children from age 4 through Grade 6. Our goal is to help parents teach their children about Jesus and what he has done for us through stories and application to our lives. On Christmas Eve, the children are involved in welcoming the Savior and proclaiming his birth.
Catechism Class - Pastor leads these classes on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm-7:30pm. 5th and 6th grade spends two years studying Bible history chronologically. 7th and 8th grade spends two years taking a more indepth look at the doctrines (teachings) found in Holy Scripture and explained in Luther's Catechism. The goal is for all students to learn the basic truths of God's Word in preparation for their Confirmation - the day they publicly confess their faith and begin taking the Lord's Supper. Subjects studied include the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
High School Teen Bible Class - This class currently meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm-7:30pm. We study various topics and books of the Bible throughout the year. This is a great place to come and ask questions and to learn more about Jesus during some very busy years of life as your transition from child to adult. We've had some really great discussions and studies in the past couple years and we're very excited to continue offering this opportunity to our high school students (and beyond if you wish to come)!
Sunday Morning Bible Study - This study meets from about 9:15am-10:15am during the school year. In the summertime, this class meets after our 9am Worship Service. We study and discuss various subjects throughout the year from individual books of the Bible to topical studies. This is a wonderful life-long spiritual growth opportunity for everyone from 7th grade to adult.
Week in the Word Bible Study: Every Thursday at 8:30am, we meet at Familiar Grounds Coffee Shop in New London for a Bible study that lasts about an hour. Join us for a refreshing cup of coffee (or another beverage of your choice!) and a great midweek Bible study opportunity. We take a closer look at where we are in the Church Year and the three Scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday.
Bible Information Class - If you would like to study and learn the basic truths of God's Word and/or are interested in becoming a member of Grace Lutheran Church, this is the opportunity for you. This class is held upon request or at certain times throughout the year. If you are interested in participating in this class, please contact the pastor.
Science Camp - For one week each summer, we hold an exciting and interactive Science Camp. Children get to learn about different parts of God's creation in His own words, as well as experience hands-on experiments, games, snacks, and crafts all related to the theme for the week and the day. This is open to all kids age Pre-K through 6th Grade each year with a new theme. For more information on this, please check out our Science Camp tab of our website.
Other Ways You Can Be Involved
Ushers - A great opportunity to help and serve on Sunday mornings. Ushers light the candles, ring the bells, make sure everyone has a bulletin before worship starts, guide people forward for the sacrament on communion Sundays, and assist in other various ways as needed.
Choir - We currently have a women's choir that sings for a few special occassions throughout the year. We do not meet or practice on a regular basis. This is open to anyone in 7th Grade and up.
Ladies of Grace - The women of Grace gather together once a month (normally a Tuesday afternoon). We open with Bible study and then discuss ways that we can serve our Lord in the coming weeks. We also enjoy delcious dessert treats each month! The Ladies of Grace serve our congregation by serving potluck dinners, visiting homebound members, and providing flowers for the altar. All women are invited to join us as we seek to serve our Lord in all that we do.
Walking by Faith Women's Group - This group began more recently in our congregation. We meet on a monthly basis (usually in the evening but on a different day each month, so always check the calendar) and enjoy great food and time visiting with our sisters in Christ. Some of our meetings have specific topics we discuss about life and sometimes we meet just to enjoy each other's company. This is open to any women of our congregation confirmed and older.
